Patrick Stewart on Violence Against Women

This is a honest piece on Violence Against Women by Patrick Stewart for Amnestry International. It is amazing to hear such a well spoken classically trained actor, who usually speaks with elegance and charisma, voice tremble as he attempts to give us a glimpse into the realities of domestic violence.

I was very happy that he did address violence against men to some extent, a topic that is far too often left out of conversations on domestic violence. For those of us teaching and training in the martial arts I hope this speech will offer some insight as to why it is important for us to consider more than the octagon in our training. We must consider not only giving people the physical tools to deal with violence but also the mental tools that will allow both men and woman to have the strength to not inflict nor accept violence upon themselves or others.
